Paul Rowlands was second in his Polaris with Adrian Marfell in third.

Dry and sunny conditions greeted the crews as they tackled the opening runs of the challenging course. Ian Gregg was quickest on the first run in his Polaris, leading Marfell’s Fouquet by six seconds. Gregg extended his lead on the second run but Marfell battled back to be only three seconds off first place at the end of day one’s five runs. In third place, a further two seconds back, was Kershaw in his Lofthouse Evo with son Mason co-driving.

A further six runs took place on day two. Times continued to be tight at the top of the leaderboard, Marfell closing the gap to Gregg to one second after the first run and then taking the lead on the next one. Victory hopes were dashed on run 10 though when Marfell broke a driveshaft, dropping around 45 seconds compared to his usual pace. On the same run Gregg had mechanical issues which resulted in a stage maximum, dropping him down the leaderboard. Kershaw kept up his day one pace to take the lead with one run to go and he had a trouble free last lap to take the win.

“It’s been nine years since my last full British season, I can’t believe it”, said Kershaw. “What a weekend and to win with my son, it doesn’t get any better. It’s only the third event with the new Lofthouse car and there’s more development to come but we’ve got a great base to work from.”

Rowlands and co-driver Neil Lloyd finished second in their Polaris. They were also racing their new Lofthouse Freelander and took 8th place as well.

Rowlands commented: “Not a bad weekend, we broke a wheel on the first day but other than that we had good runs in both cars. It was my first event in the Lofthouse so I was driving at around 90%, there’s a lot more to come from that car at the next event at Sweet Lamb.”

Despite the broken shaft Marfell and Paul Bartleman held on to take third place.

“I’m gutted not to get the win, we’d managed to get into the lead after the 7th run and the win was in sight but it wasn’t to be. I’m pleased with our times, we set the fastest time of the whole weekend on one run. There’s still more development left in the car so we will fight on.”

2019 BXCC champion Justin Birchall and new co-driver Andy Powell were in fourth and Andy Degiulio and Paul Foley were fifth despite having to change a diff and suffering a broken driveshaft.

“We had a great first event,” said Degiulio. “I was a bit rusty at first with not racing for a long time. Towards the end of day one we noticed a vibration and transmission noise on the car. It got so bad on the final run of the day that you could feel it resonating through the car and we were waiting for something to go bang but we got to the end. We worked until 11pm on Saturday fitting our spare diff to the rear. Then on day two we broke a rear driveshaft, we managed to get it fixed though and we were happy with fifth place.”

Phill Bayliss and Lance Murfin were doing their first BXCC event in their Team OFG 3M AT Challenger and overcame several issues to finish sixth.

“What a weekend! Saturday started ok but then we got a puncture with damaged a ball joint on the second run. Queuing for the third run we lost all the electrics and had to roll back to the service area. We eventually found an issue with the emergency cut off switch. We finally started run three and I was in a rather stressed and annoyed mood, we were pushing hard but ended up going into a ditch. I kept the power on and we launched out of the ditch and off the road. Thankfully no damage was done but we were down in 14th place. Day two was a lot smoother and we set some competitive times to finish sixth overall and second in class. Thank you to everyone involved who set up and ran the event including all the marshals who sat out there in hot and dusty conditions.”

Finishing just outside of the top ten and beating several much more experienced competitors, including her dad, was Jasmine Philpott in her Warrior with Peter Widdop co-driving.

“This was my first stab at a BXCC event and I was really pleased with our result and proud to be just behind the fastest men,” said Philpott. “Pete is preparing the car this year and he’s done a great job and it’s showing in my times. We also had some advice on suspension set up from Anthony Jackson who is a very quick Warrior driver. I ran the course twice on Saturday morning and tried to memorise it – I’ll not be doing that at the longer Sweet Lamb course! The weekend was fairly uneventful mechanically, we had a leaky diff but it wasn’t too bad and we narrowly escaped a puncture on day two when I got a bit over-zealous and threw the back end into a rock. The wheel was broken but somehow we didn’t get a puncture.”

Debuting his new Lofthouse was Rob Bool with Victoria Vaughan navigating, they finished 14th overall.

“It took a bit of getting used to,” said Bool. “We had a few electrical issues on Saturday which lost us some time. Dan Lofthouse sorted them for us and also made some suspension adjustments at the end of the first day which improved the car a lot for the second day.”

One place behind Bool, and also debuting a new car, were Trophy crew Tom and Alice Jones in their Can-Am Maverick.

“Our aim for the weekend was to get a finish, we started Saturday well and were setting consistent times, not going too wild in the rough areas. By Sunday morning we were close on times with Matthew Hall who is also doing the Trophy championship in a similar car. Despite a puncture the times were very close and going into the last run we needed to do a 6:17 lap to secure the Trophy win. We pushed harder on the rougher areas and managed a 6:05, our fastest run of the weekend. The competition was really good and it was a great start to the championship.”

Mattserati crew Warren Roper and Alec Fern were joint third overall after the first run but a stage maximum on the fourth run ended hopes of a good result, they completed the event in 21st place.

“I’m new to the BXCC and I’ve never run on all-terrain tyres so I was very happy with our time on the first run,” said Roper. “We stiffened the rear shocks for run two but we ended up with no grip, spinning near the start. We went back to the original settings and started to learn the car and build confidence. The Sunday runs went well and we were setting top five times. I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, massive thanks to all involved.”

The other crew in joint third place after run one were Dave and Antony Hooper in their supercharged Simmbugghini. Unfortunately they had a wiring issue which dropped them down to 40th place but they battled back, setting top six times and finishing 19th overall, top beam-axle car and first in class.

Martin James and Matt Lowe overcame several issues to finish in 32nd place in their Lofthouse.

“We had a couple of punctures early on day one which meant we had to limp to the finish losing at least a minute,” commented James. “After sitting on the start line while a stoppage was cleared the car wouldn’t start so we had to be towed back to the pits, thanks to John and Matt for helping strip and find that the plug for the fuel pump had given up. We got back out and completed the rest of our runs. The dramas weren’t over though as after resetting the flat shift at the end of the day the car wouldn’t start – the electronic kill switch had given up. Fortunately I had a spare. Day two was a lot smoother and it was nice to get to the finish. Our problems didn’t end there though, a wheel bearing let go on our trailer ¼ mile from the venue. Michael Kerfoot kindly helped out and we did a two hour round trip to Chorley to get another trailer, finally leaving the site at 9pm and getting home at 2am!”.

BXC Trophy crew Harry Nicoll and Emily Sibley, possibly the youngest crew in the championship this year with a combined age of 44, enjoyed their weekend in the Trophy class and finished 28th overall in their Tomcat.

Nicoll said: “We made a cautious start as the course was quite rough in places but we got quicker as the day progressed. Day 2 was going well but we bent a trackrod end on one run and were lucky not to snap it. We had a really great time pushing the car and we’re very happy with our pace. We couldn’t catch the UTV cars in the Trophy so it was nice just to have fun and learn more. It was a great course and event by all the team”.

Also racing in the Trophy, and on their first ever offroad event, were Reece and Sean Mathieson. They had a good day one in their Freelander but on the opening run of the second day a strut bolt sheared and the driveshaft came out resulting in a maximum and their first experience of the BXCC recovery team.

“What a great first event weekend, the car was brilliant and we’ve both bedded in well. We couldn’t be happier with the result both in terms of our times and the car’s performance. It all went pretty smoothly other than the strut issue but we were quickly recovered by the great recovery crews and our mechanic worked his magic! Massive thanks to Tony Devenport for his mechanical expertise and to Mike Wilson, the car’s former owner, for all his advice over the weekend. Our confidence is growing, we can’t wait for the next event.”

George and Jaqueline Bryson raced their Warrior Audoo Quattro for the first time and they battled to 35th place after a stage maximum on day one.

“I don’t think any of us had been so nervous about an event ever,” said George. “New car, new venue and not having raced for so long. Run one was like learning to drive again! We lost the wipers at the watersplash one one run which wasn’t ideal as there was bend over a drop right after it. At the same splash on the final run of day one the car stopped completely. We stripped half the car to get to the fuel pump only to discover that the problem was simply that the relay had fallen out! Day two started better, driver awake, car pulling great and the navigator on the button. The car then started losing power and the fuel pressure was dropping. I think the pump must have got damaged when it ran dry the day before. Anyway, we had some good runs and were pretty happy all things considered.”

Mike Wilson and Ian Letman were another crew coming straight into the BXCC with no racing for 18 months. Their objectives were to learn the car, not to break it and to finish and they achieved all three with their only real issues being a broken intercom on day one and Letman getting a shower on every run through the watersplash.

Excite Team GB debuted their Mitsubishi Pajero and were rewarded with a class win despite driver Jade Paveley and co-drivers Claire Williams and Hannah Davison never having competed in a cross country event before.

For full results from the event please visit http://results.wizzyideas.co.uk/events/bxcc/2021/R3-Parkwood.htm

The next BXCC round will be at Sweet Lamb in Wales in July. He’ll have a new co-driver this season with Andy Powell joining the team. They contested their first event together in May, taking third overall at NORC Pickering.

Also racing a Lofthouse will be Martin James who was planning on having his partner navigating for him.

“Unfortunately the logistics of getting to Yorkshire have meant my plans have changed,” said James. “Matt Lowe will be navigating for me now as, due to her work, my partner Chas won’t be able to get to the event in time. We’ve had to do a few tweaks to the car and change the seat for Matt. It’s sad that Chas can’t make it but it will be interesting having someone of Matt’s experience alongside me.”

One of the several new drivers to the BXCC this season is George Bryson who is more known for his stage rallying exploits. Bryson will be racing a Warrior Audoo Quattro.

“After many many years of stage rallying we changed to off-road racing five years ago,” said Bryson. “We marshalled at a few events to get a feel for it and to meet some of the people involved. We decided to go for it in 2016 and entered the Borders Hill Rally before I’d even bought a car!”

“We have really enjoyed the change in disciplines and, with the BXCC events being two days and sometimes over 100 miles of competition, we think it provides fantastic value for money. There’s a wide range of competitors with varying budgets but one common thing we have found is how friendly everyone is and how competitors help each other out.”

“I bought the Warrior ready for the 2020 BXCC and I drove it at a test day over a year ago and haven’t driven it since so it will be a real quick learning curve at Tong! I’m not expecting to be anywhere near the pace but I’m determined to just enjoy it this season along with a return to historic rallying.”

Jasmine Philpott will also be racing a Warrior, with Peter Widdop co-driving. Philpott has already been racing this season, most recently at the NORC event at Pickering. Unfortunately this event didn’t go quite to plan.

Widdop commented: “There were a lot of issues after a broken rear diff on the first run at Pickering and then the car rolled on the last run. New doors have been fitted and the car is now in a million bits but it will be ready for Tong, hopefully we will have a clear run.”

Cumbrian driver Mike Wilson will be giving his new Polaris its BXCC debut and he’ll have Ian Letman navigating as usual. Wilson will also be debuting his new luxury accommodation.

“A trusty Ducato van did us proud for five seasons but we’ve replaced it with a new truck which accommodates both car and crew,” said Wilson. “It seems such a long time since we were last out and I am sure there will be a degree of rust on both driver and navigator but after a couple of runs we will find our feet.”

Wilson’s old Freelander is now in the hands of father and son team Sean and Reece Mathieson who’ll be sharing driving duties. Both have experience of navigating in the BXCC but it will be their first time driving.

The event will start at 12pm on Saturday 12th June with competitors racing until around 6pm. There will be further action on Sunday with prize-giving expected to be at around 4pm

In addition to championship sponsor Britpart the BXCC is supported by Voxcloud, Staffordshire Signs, Whitecliff 4x4, ORTyresUK, Birchall Foodservice, NickyGrist.com, PD Extinguishers, Devon Town and Country Roofing and Gwalia Healthcare. The Tong event is supported by Bondcroft ATVs.

Please visit crosscountryuk.org for information about the BXCC.
GShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08365136141601584871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2649786299659048973.post-37377821497016268332021-05-17T18:23:00.003+01:002021-05-17T21:11:42.567+01:00Riley to support ChemoHero during BXCC campaign

Britpart BXCC driver Oisin Riley will be raising awareness of North Devon charity ChemoHero this season as he debuts his new Lofthouse Fiesta car.

ChemoHero was founded in 2014 and their team of volunteers provide "boxes of kindness" to patients when undergoing their first chemotherapy treatment at North Devon District Hospital. A quiet few months in motorsport terms for me. I declined covering the Saltire Classic due to the tumbleweed that greeted my images from the event last year so I've done no events since the final BXCC round last year.

It's soon time for BXCC 2020 to start. Once again I'll be doing the photography and media stuff, alongside Special Stage who'll be providing video coverage.

The BXCC organisers have their own website which I have access to publish event reports on. Last year I duplicated content on here but now that the official site is established I don't see any point doing that. There's also an official BXCC Facebook group.

Justin Birchall and Jonny Koonja claimed the Britpart British Cross
Country Championship title with a victory in the final round of the
season which was held at Walters in South Wales.

With one non-finish already this year Birchall could not afford
another retirement if he was to take his first British championship.
He made a great start, setting fastest time on the opening run in his
Lofthouse M3. Mark Jacques and Adam Nicholson, second in the title
race going into the final round, were in second place in their
LS3-engined Lofthouse.

Jacques was fastest on the second run but Birchall was quickest on
the remaining five runs of day one to take a commanding lead into day
two. Jacques was second but with a broken gearbox it was doubtful
that he’d start day two. Phill Bayliss and Lance Murfin were in
third place in their Land Rover Special.

Torrential rain for 24 hours before the event had made the course
very wet and the venue took it’s toll on some cars. Round 5 winner
Andy Deguilio broke the clutch pedal on his Milner R5 which he
managed to make a fix for but an ominous transmission whine resulted
in him calling it a day before likely repairs became even more
expensive. Andi Skelley returned to the championship but he was
forced out with gearbox problems on his Milner. Steve Smith, fresh
from starring in Autocar magazine, put his Clio V8 in a ditch but was
able to continue after being extracted by the recovery crew.

Whilst the rest of the service area was asleep Mark Jacques’ team
were busy trying to repair the gearbox. Two of the Lofthouse
Motorsport team went to get some parts from Preston, around 200 miles
away, and then work continued through the night with the fix finally
complete at 4am.

The team’s work was rewarded with Jacques successfully making it to
the finish in second place, a result which gave in second in the
championship also.

“What a season and what a weekend,” said Jacques. “We had a
good start to the event but then we lost fourth gear. On the final
run of day one we were jammed in third. All the team did a fantastic
job to get the gearbox repaired, we didn’t have all the right parts
so a couple of the lads had to go to Lofthouse Motorsport to get
spares.”

“We nursed it through the second day and made it to the finish.
It’s been a brilliant season, thank you to everyone who has helped
us and to the BXCC team for putting on the championship.”

Despite a broken alternator belt and a puncture Phill Bayliss
finished third, taking third overall in the championship too.

“Like our other third places this season this result was very
unexpected,” commented Bayliss. “The weather on day one made
things very interesting but it was all good. We had a few issues, as
well as the belt and puncture we had the wipers stop on one run and
the brakes fail on another but the service crew did a brilliant job
as did my navigator Lance.”

“I need to say a massive thanks to all the organisers, marshals,
recovery crews and all the other volunteers who take their own time
to put on the events for us to enjoy, you’re all awesome!”

The issued faced by Bayliss and Jacques meant that Birchall had a
clear run to the win although he didn’t back off at all as his
height over the jump on day two’s runs testified! The result gave
Birchall his first British title with Koonja adding to the title he
won with Dan Lofthouse in 2013.

“It’s been around 10 years in the making,” said Birchall. “The
season hasn’t gone exactly to plan but I suppose that has kept
everyone entertained! The pressure was on to get the result with
already having one retirement but I felt really calm and kept
focused. We pulled out a good lead out on day one and then it was a
case of concentrating and bringing it home. I’m absolutely over the
moon.”

Jason Rowlands was in fourth place in his Can-Am X3 with Dave Hooper
in fifth in his new Bowler Tomcat. In sixth was the Lofthouse
Freelander of Martin James. James commented: “It was a great
weekend of racing. The weather was challenging but we made it through
with just one puncture. It’s only the third proper outing with the
car so I’m still learning with every lap.”

Oisin Riley completed his season in style with seventh place and
another BXC Trophy win in his Polaris. Martin and Aston Cox were
eight after a few issues with the GSR 206 including a broken
wishbone.

Harry Nicoll and Emily Sibley finished ninth in their Bowler Tomcat
despite blowing a front diff on day one. Rounding off the top ten
were Steve Smith and John Griffiths in the Clio who, after their day
one ditch excursion, required the recovery team again on day two when
their steering broke.

Andy Degiulio and Paul Foley put their bad luck this season behind them with victory at round five of the Britpart British Cross Country Championship which was held at Whaddon in Buckinghamshire.

A quick start by Paul Rowlands and Neil Lloyd gave them a lead of 14 seconds after the opening two runs in their Polaris with Degiulio in second place. Fastest or joint fastest times on the next four runs saw Degiulio close the gap to one second after run 6. Rowlands’ victory hopes were dashed on run 7 though with a broken drive belt resulting in a maximum which dropped him down the leaderboard and left Degiulio leading the event overnight with championship leaders Justin Birchall and Jonny Koonja in second and Ian Gregg and Adam Evans in third.

Whaddon was a new venue for the BXCC and it proved to be tough for some crews on day one. Martin and Aston Cox damaged the steering on their GSR 206, Richard Green broke a track rod end on his Tomcat 100 and Michael Wilson’s Freelander was forced into retirement when the front diff housing exploded and holed the engine sump.

Degiulio maintained his lead throughout the second day, taking the win by 1m 24s.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Degiulio. “It’s a good feeling to be back on the podium after the problems we’ve had this season with crashing and mechanical issues. It was a case of keeping my head down and keeping at it. I enjoyed the event, I enjoy the driving and it’s a privilege to do what we do.”

There was a tense battle for second place. Mark Jacques and Adam Nicholson set the fastest time of the event on the last run of day one in their Lofthouse LS3 and they set the pace on day two also, with fastest time on every run. Jacques completed his runs with Birchall’s car still in service having the front diff changed. Birchall set out on his final run needing to complete the course in less than 6m 09s to get second place but he wasn’t able to achieve it and had to settle for third behind Jacques.

Jacques commented: “It’s been a tough weekend, we arrived late on Friday so didn’t get a chance to walk the course and then the first couple of runs were difficult as we had a misfire. After that though we started to enjoy it and the car was faultless. It was quite different terrain to what we usually race on but we gave it our best. It was a really good event, well organised with a great atmosphere.”

Birchall’s third place keeps his BXCC title hopes alive. He commented: “It was an extremely hard event, the nature of the course meant trying to do the same speed as usual was very difficult. It was tough on both car and crew, I’ve got blisters on my hands from hanging on to the steering wheel. We had a knocking noise on the car on day two so we changed the front diff but then we had no fourth gear on the final two runs. It’s been a good weekend though.”

Gregg finished fourth in his Polaris with Paul Rowlands fighting back from his day one disappointment to take fifth. Jason Rowlands also had a drive belt failure which meant he could finish no higher than sixth in his Can-Am X3.

Martin and Aston Cox had further steering issues on day two but were still able to finish seventh. Oisin Riley was eighth in his Polaris and Phill Bayliss ended his run of third places in ninth after a challenging event which included damaging his wrist on day one after hitting a bump at speed, resulting in the rest of the event having to be driven one-handed. Liam Griffin rounded off the top ten in his Bowler Bulldog on what was his first BXCC event.

The penultimate round of the Britpart British Cross Country Championship takes place next weekend and the competitors will face a new challenge with the first ever visit of the series to the Whaddon venue in Buckinghamshire.

Justin Birchall got his season back on track at the last round in Bovington, a win taking him to the top of the championship leaderboard on 252 points. Birchall’s navigator has prepared for the event by taking part in Rallye Des Cimes, partnering Dan Lofthouse in Mike Moran’s Lofthouse Evo.

Fellow Lofthouse driver Mark Jacques is in second place with 243 points after salvaging fifth place at round four following transmission problems on the opening day.

In third place, with 233 points, is Phill Bayliss who has finished third overall on each of the last three events in his Land Rover Special.

Paul Rowlands was unlucky not to get a win at Bovington but the second place he achieved was enough to put him in fourth place in the championship on 203 points.

Just behind Rowlands, on 199 points, is Aston and Martin Cox who are in fifth place despite missing the last round.

“Unfortunately harvesting got in the way of racing at Bovington,” said Aston. “We’ll be out in the Can-Am X3 at Whaddon rather than the GSR 206. We’re looking forward to a nice local event for a change!”

Another driver returning after missing Bovington is Michael Wilson who will be looking for another production class win in his Freelander.

“Both the car and my navigator weren’t in a suitable condition to race at the last round but both are fine now so we’ll be at Whaddon,” commented Wilson. “A new screen is going on the car this week and there are a few other jobs to do when I get back from my holidays but nothing major.”

Chloe Jones presently leads class 7 and just needs to get a point for starting to wrap up the class championship.

“I start at university the day after the event so it’s likely to be our last racing of the year,” said Jones. “With only having to cross the start line to win the championship we’re going to be playing for overall points as we having nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

The action will start at 10am on Saturday with a full day of competition with the event expected to finish around 3pm on Sunday.

Justin Birchall and Jonny Koonja got their Britpart BXCC championship season back on track with a win at round four which was held at Bovington in Dorset, a venue which lived up to its reputation for causing drama.

Jason Rowlands set the pace on day one in his Can-Am X3 with fastest times on six of the seven runs of the course. His father Paul Rowlands was fastest on one run and was in second place up until run five when the drive belt broke, costing him around five minutes.

Birchall was in third place early on but moved up to second at the end of day one. Ryan Cooke had a good day one to finish in third position overnight.

The opening day didn’t go so well for some crews. Mark Jacques, who was leading the championship going into round four, had a locked transmission on his Lofthouse LS3, Richard Green’s Bowler stopped with a broken fanbelt, Chris Speakman had broken suspension on his Yamaha and Andy Degiulio’s bad luck continued with a snapped shaft on the transmission of his Milner R5.

Jason Rowlands continued to head the pack on the first run of day two, setting the fastest time of the event to extend his lead. It all went wrong on the second run though, a ball joint breaking as he approached the finish line causing the car to hit a bank before stopping in the course. Despite his father completing his runs and trying to use parts from his own car to effect a repair Rowlands was unable to continue and had to take maximums for the rest of the runs, dropping him to 12th place.

Birchall was now in the lead and he survived the rest of the day to win by almost three minutes.

“The crash at Sweet Lamb put me under pressure to get a good result at Bovington,” said Birchall. “I had a good lead there and then put the car on its roof when backing off on day two. I had to get my head into gear for Bovington, especially with the venue changing to the southern site a few days before. We did a few suspension tweaks on day one to try and improve performance over the bumpy terrain. The course dried out for day two which was in our favour and with the Rowlands’ cars having problems we managed to get the win.”

Paul Rowlands was left regretting the broken belt on day one as he finished in second place, despite being fastest on three of the five runs on day two.

“We’d been in second place behind Jason but then we had to stop to replace the drive belt. It took around five minutes to change it which dropped us to fourth overnight and, with Jason’s ball joint problem, possibly cost us the chance of a win.”

Ryan Cooke’s event ended in disappointment with his Milner LRM-1’s engine dumping its oil shortly before the finish of the final run. The resulting maximum dropped him to fourth place overall which meant that Phil Bayliss was promoted to third, his third consecutive third place.

“I’m happy to get third although not in these circumstances,” said Bayliss. “I was happy to be in the fifth place I was in at the end of day one, especially with Bovington being a very tough venue on the cars, so to end up with third is great. We had an alternator belt break on day one but luckily we had a spare with us so could do a repair on the course. On our final run I decided to push to try and beat our fastest time but around a third of the way in I drifted wide over a banking and into a drain hole. The radius arm bent and cut through the brake pipe which caused a loss of brakes but we managed to get round.”

Mark Jacques recovered from his day one issues to finish fifth. In sixth, and first BXC Trophy driver, was Oisin Riley in his Polaris.

“I’m pleased with the result,” said Riley. “It was a good course which suited our type of car, I enjoyed the experience.”

After missing the previous round Steve Smith returned in his JRG Clio V8 to take seventh. Harry Nicoll and Emily Sibley were eighth and first in class in their Tomcat on what was Sibley’s first time navigating.

Although they are more used to competing in endurance events Spanish crew Jesus Navarro and Raquel Dorado finished ninth and first in class in their McRae Enduro, the first time this make of car has raced in the British Championship. Another car making its first British Championship appearance was the Dacia Duster of Future Terrain team George Frost, Hannah Collins and Sean Whatley.

Rounding off the top ten was a Bowler Bulldog with driving duties shared by Richard Hayward and Greg Macleod, a result achieved despite suffering broken steering on day one.

With Rob Bool’s car not fixed after a fire at Sweet Lamb his usual navigator Victoria Vaughan raced her own car and finished 11th overall.

Richard Green and Richard Griffiths were 13th and first in class after overcoming their fan belt problem on day one. Chloe Jones and Chris Alridge took their QT 88 to 14th, Jones now recovered after ending the previous round in hospital in severe pain.

The final finishers were Richard Lane and John Tomley in a Land Rover Defender. Lane is a road tester for Autocar magazine so it will be interesting to read how his Bovington experience compares to testing supercars in exotic locations!
